Position Overview
The Union Baptist Church of Elizabeth, NJ seeks a Senior Pastor who will serve as the spiritual leader and shepherd of our congregation. The candidate will be responsible for guiding the congregation along their faith journey by preaching the Word of God, and spiritually feeding, leading, and nurturing them. At the same time, the candidate shall be fostering a vibrant, Christ-centered community of believers. In the role of Senior Pastor, we are looking for someone who is compassionate, a visionary, and, a biblically grounded leader who can minister effectively to a diverse congregation within the culturally mixed City of Elizabeth, NJ.

Qualifications

The prospective Senior Pastor will be required to:

• Live a life consistent with biblical teachings and the moral standards as modeled by Jesus Christ.
• Uphold the biblical view of marriage and sexuality
• The single candidate must demonstrate integrity and faithfulness in personal relationships
• Serve as a role model of godly character in both public and private life
• Demonstrates clear evidence of God’s anointing in their preaching, teaching, presence and spiritual growth. He or she shall be innovative and transformative in their ministry, and show alignment with the biblical principles.
• Be an effective communicator, teacher and preacher
• Develops the church vision and mission, and, also directs plans for ministry and church growth which shall include community engagement
• Be open to serving as a full-time or bi-vocational Senior Pastor

Education and Credentials

The candidate for the position of Senior Pastor of the Union Baptist Church of Elizabeth, NJ must meet the following requirements:

• Must possess an ordination certificate and a minimum of a recognized ministerial certificate or equivalent proof of theological
  training
• A formal theological education which is strongly preferred, including:
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, or Ministry
  • Doctoral Degree (D. Min., Ph.D., or equivalent) is highly desirable
  • The candidate also must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing
    spiritual and professional development
  • Prior pastoral experience or evidence of previous involvement in
    church leadership is desirable
